Injuries of the musculoskeletal system especially of the lower extremities, occur frequently in ballet dancers. A number of diseases are characteristic for ballet and require specific treatment. Our experience with conservative and operative treatment of these diseases is described in the article. As operative treatment is indicated the intervention must be performed in a way that maximum joint function is retained. Most articular problems in dancers i.e. of the knee, the ankle and the base joint of the big toe can nowadays be successfully treated by arthroscopic surgery. With tendoscopy now even extra articular problems of the tibialis posterior tendon, the peroneal tendons, the flexor hallucis longus tendon and the Achilles tendon can likewise be treated in the same minimally invasive manner.
