Abstract des Autors

We believe that the collagen scaffold - Collagen Meniscus Implant - can be implanted arthroscopically, is biocompatible, is resorbable, and supports new tissue regeneration and ingrowth as the scaffold is resorbed by the body. This tissue seems likely to function in a manner similar to meniscus tissue in that the chondral surfaces of the implanted joints appear to be protected. The Collagen Meniscus Implant and the newly regenerated tissue appear to be clinically safe over at least seven years based on continued follow up, and no serious adverse effects attributable to the collagen scaffold material have been reported. We now await the final and detailed results of the international multicenter clinical trials. Verf.-Referat
