Abstract des Autors

Two schoolboy eight rowing crews (A and B) were monitored over the course of a school rowing season to provide a physiological and anthropometrical profile and to monitor changes within and between crews during a competition season. Testing was repeated on two occasions eight weeks apart and included a 2000 m performance test, VO2peak and anaerobic threshold (AT) evaluation and an anthropometrical profile. The anthropometrical and performance characteristics were (n=15); (X+/-SD): age = 16.9+/-0.4 years, height = 184.6+/-7.5 cm, weight = 76.1+/-5.1 kg, VO2peak = 4.2+/-0.3 l/min, 2000 m performance time = 6:45.9+/-0.2 rnin and AT power = 257+/-22 W. Training programmes revealed that A completed a greater amount of work close to race pace while B concentrated on long/moderate intensity rowing. This difference may have attributed to an improvement in 2000 m performance time for A (P<0.05), despite a decrease in VO2peak for both crews (P<0.05). Training close to and at race pace during the competition season is important in improving 2000 m performance in schoolboy rowers. The physiological and anthropometrical information also provides a profile of schoolboy rowers. Verf.-Referat
