Abstract des Autors

Figure skating is a rapidly growing sport. More athletes are becoming involved at all levels. Basic skating is a low impact activity. Despite the artistry, however, it is a sport that requires power and a high level of aerobic fitness. With the continued rush to complete more complex jumps and more difficult elements, the types of injuries presented to clinicians are changing. These injuries are challenging to evaluate and rehabilitate. A comprehensive, functional biomechanical examination is integral to constructing an appropriate rehabilitation program. Prevention of injuries through education, addressing boot technology, and evaluating and implementing off-ice conditioning programs are paramount to the health, well-being and continued success of our figure skating athletes.
