Superior glenoid labrum tears occur commonly and many cause shoulder pain and dysfunction. The SLAP lesion may produce pain through mechanical irritation, diminished humeral head depression, or decreased glenohumeral stability. This article describes the technique of operative repair and the relationship of the superior labrum to normal and abnormal shoulder biomechanics - an understanding of which is required for the proper treatment of SLAP lesions.
