Abstract des Autors
Figure skating and ice hockey are currently enjoying immense popularity in the United States and abroad. Along with this popularity has come an increase in injuries among these athletes, many of which require evaluation by a physician. One type of injury has only recently been reported and appears to be limited largely to skiers and ice skaters, for whom boot fit and contour are important components of performance and competition. This condition is malleolar bursitis. Malleolar bursitis can significantly alter a skater's performance and, in more resistant cases, can prohibit skating altogether. Although this process usually responds to nonoperative treatment, it occasionally requires a surgical procedure. We present two cases of malleolar bursitis in figure skaters followed by a discussion of the possible causes of this condition, its presentation, and treatment guidelines. Verf.-Referat
