Abstract des Autors

Modification of the Heath-Carter somatotype method is presented. In the modified method the original measurements of the skinfold thicknesses have been replaced by the assessment of the body fatness using the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Based on the results obtained in 395 boys, aged 16 to 19 years, four analytical equations have been developed. The comparative analysis of the results provided by the classical and the modified methods indicated the significant conformity of the estimations of both endo- (r=0.98; P<0.001) and mesomorphy (r=0.99; P<0.001). In contrast to the classical Heath-Carter method, which is based on the evaluation of ten independent variables, in the modified method only seven parameters are necessary. In addition, calliper measurements requiring considerable hands-on experience are not used in the modified method. In conclusion, the present results provide the rationale for the more common application of the BIA method to somatotypological investigations. Verf.-Referat
