Abstract des Autors

This investigation examined children's moral reasoning maturity and their descriptive and prescriptive judgements about gender stratification in sport. Children in youth sport programs were interviewed using the Gender Stratification Interview (Solomon, Bredemeier and Shields, 1993) and the Distributive Justice Scale (Enright, Franklin and Manheim, 1980). ChiSquare analyses revealed that children interpreted sport as a context where gender stratification exists. Specifically, boys were characterized as more advantaged in sport because they were more highly skilled. Most children judged gender stratification to be illegitimate, especially girls and older children. No significant relationship between children's moral reasoning maturity and legitimacy judgements about gender stratification was evidenced. These findings were discussed in terms of peer conformity, growth spurts in reasoning, and scale distinctiveness. Verf.-Referat
