Abstract des Autors

Swelling of the interphalangeal joints of the fingers is a frequent occurrence in adult rock climbers, and is often diagnosed as tendinitis or tenosynovitis. Occasionally in adults, a partial or complete rupture of the annular pulley (A2) of the flexor sheath leads to bowstringing of the tendons or to a fixed flexion deformity. We present an unusual case of bilateral Salter-Harris type III stress fracture of the base of the middle fingers occurring in an adolescent rock climber. To our knowledge, there are no previous reports of interphalangeal joint swelling in adolescent climbers or of epiphyseal fractures of the phalanges occurring because of overuse in this sporting activity.
