Abstract des Autors
Athletes represent a particular problem in the diagnosis and treatment of stress fractures. This patient population has a tendency to continue activity with an injured limb, regardless of pain. The repetitive stress on the symptomatic limb interferes with proper healing of the stress fracture. As a result, microfractures develop with eventual progression to an overt fracture. The value of MRI is its ease of application and lack of need for injection of radionuclide. In this report, MRI proved to be an effective aid in the diagnosis of stress fracture of the humerus in a collegiate baseball pitcher. Verf.-Referat
