Abstract des Autors

For years now, the athletes on the German national team for handicapped Nordic skiing have been subjected to regular examinations of their performance physiology in relation to their handicap. Methods involved treadmill, bicycle, crank handle, wheelchair or ski sled ergometry studies in addition to field tests. In all, we believe that the treadmill test is the best method of sport-specific stress testing to collect data on performance physiology in cross-country skiers and ski sled ergometry the best method to study sledders. In addition, field tests for obtaining the heart rates of the respective performance intensities are relevant and determinations of lactate levels should also be conducted in parallel. During the ski sled field test, the athletes showed an average steady-state lactate concentration of 4.9 mmol/l and a heart rate of 159/min. An improved training schedule with cyclic training units during the season and measurement and monitoring of the different performance intensities accomplished an increase in performance during the observation period.
