Abstract des Autors

The free radicals play an important role as mediators of skeletal muscle damage and inflammation after strenuous exercise. The generation of oxygen free radicals is increased during exercise as a result of an increase in mitochondrial oxygen consumption and electron transport flux inducing lipid peroxidation. The exercise can increase activity of certain antioxidant enzymes in various tissues. The vitamins E and C and glutathione, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) are able to detoxify the free radicals produced during exercise and may prevent muscle damage. The NO and its derivatives also are synthesised within skeletal muscle and these NO derivatives influence various aspects of muscle function. Verf.-Referat
