Abstract des Autors

The study was carried out in twelve middle-distance runners from the AZS AWF 2nd league athletics team in Gorzow Wlkp. who were subjected to the endurance exercise test on a treadmill. After the exercise, the following parameters of the prooxidant-antioxidant equilibrium were estimated in blood samples collected from the runners: levels of the reduced (GSH) and total (GSH+GSSG) glutathione, activities of glutathione reductase (GR), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT), and concentration of lipid-peroxidation products (TBARS). It was found that the applied exercise enhanced the metabolism of glutathione in both the serum and the whole blood. The exercise stimulated the activities of antioxidant enzymes SOD and CAT in the erythrocytes but had no effect on the lipid peroxidation processes. Verf.-Referat
