Abstract des Autors

The purpose of this study was an attempt to fill part of a gap in research by examining the relationships between perceived competence, intrinsic motivation, and control perceptions in youth soccer. In addition, as recommended by other researchers (e.g., Feltz and Brown, 1984), sport-specific measures were either used or developed to assess these relationships. Data were collected from 124 British male soccer players, aged from 12 to 18 (M=13.76, SD=1.54), one hour prior to practice. Internal consistency results suggest the measures were acceptable (alphas ranged from .60 to .90). Bivariate correlations revealed significant positive relationships among perceived soccer competence, motivational orientation, and internal perceptions of control. Hierarchical Multiple regression analysis results indicated the best predictor of perceived soccer competence was years of soccer experience, followed by possessing an intrinsic motivation, and the degree of perceived control over the causes of success.
