Background and aim: Having been strongly criticised in the past, instrumental physiotherapy has more recently acquired growing importance as an effective therapy for the non-invasive treatment of sports injuries. Laser therapy is certainly among the most widely used methods, also following the technological evolution of instruments and progress made in clinical and experimental research in this area. Over a number of years, the Bologna Institute of Sports Medicine has tested a variety of physiotherapy equipment in order to identify the range of intervention for each appliance and to standardise protocols for the non-surgical treatment of osteo-musculo-articular pathologies. This study reports the experience acquired over one year in the use of 910 nm hexadiodic Laser with pulsed beam. Methods: A total of 89 subjects were treated all of whom regularly played biports and suffered from the most common phlogistic type pathologies affecting the locomotor apparatus. A standard treatment protocol was used after each subject had undergone clinical and instrumental evaluation. Treatment did not last more than three weeks after which patients again underwent clinical evaluation with instrumental tests in 72 cases. Results: The outcome of treatment was classed as excellent in 65.1%, moderate in 19.2% and negative in 15.7% of cases. Conclusions: lt can therefore be said that, in the light of this experience. 910 nm pulsed laser provides an excellent aid in the treatment of minor sports injuries. Verf.-Referat
