Abstract des Autors

Total joint replacement of hip, knee and shoulder is today performed with improved implants in young and active patients. The restrictive attitude towards physical activity of patients with total joint replacement has been encouraged by the good results of modern alloplastic arthroplasties. Today total joint replacement and sports are not any more contraries. The selection of sports and their modification, however, requires extensive medical guidance. lt must consider that overloading of an artificial joint will not primarily lead to alarming pain but only loosening of the implants will become symptomatic. The patient must be aware of this problem and must learn to adapt his physical activities to the ability of his arthroplasty. Verf.-Referat
