Abstract des Autors

The bulk of the information which expresses the control characteristics of a physiological system resides in its transient rather than its steady-state behaviour. Consequently, as many of the details of the oxygen utilization dynamics during the nonsteady-state phase of exercise still remain to be conclusively characterized, crucial features of the control mechanisms are poorly understood. We shall therefore consider what is currently known about the dynamics of the pulmonary oxygen uptake (VO2) response to exercise, both with respect to the assumptions of the models used to extract the kinetic parameters and their consequences for assembling a justifiable control model for exercise VO2.
