Abstract des Autors

The authors have studied exposure to risk factors of a sample group of 450 runners and walkers from Padua and surrounding area, participants in sport events known as "marce non competitive" (MNC). An anonymous questionnaire was submitted to these runners to investigate about physical and social features (sedentariness, smoking and drinking). Familiarity for cardiovascular diseases (incidence), level of sanitary protection as to sports have been therefore assessed. Results emphasize that 50% of population taking part belongs to 31-50 age class. The authors found obesity and overweight (BMI>25) in 37.3% and 5.2% respectively in these subjects; 17.2% were smokers and 78% of the runners were sedentary, 51.1% of the population has undergone at least an annual check-up to verify the general fitness to sport. In conclusion, this study shows that participants in MNC present many risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and the missing prior assessment for sport fitness is a further risk factor.
