Abstract des Autors
The aim of this study was to evaluate, in a group of endurance athletes, the relationships among Hb, 2,3 DPG and serum ferritin, factors acting on oxygen transport, delivery and use, because of the possible role of 2,3 DPG in regulating Hb levels. A blood sample was drawn from an antecubital vein 24 hours after the last training session; the blood sample was analyzed for Hb, Hct, ferritin and 2,3 DPG. Ferritin and Hb were not significantly correlated (r=0.26); we have found the same result also for the relationship between 2,3 DPG and Hb (r=0.04). Ferritin and 2,3 DPG act on the regulation of Hb levels in these athletes. Instead, 2,3 DPG levels might be a feature of performance capability, showing the adaptation to sustained training.
