Abstract des Autors

Cardiorespiratory responses to cycle ergometer exercise performed with upper or lower limbs were studied in 15 boys with diparetic cerebral palsy, aged 16-17 years. Relative work loads in the arm or leg exercise were alike and equal to 2.24+/-0.48 and 2.10+/-0.52 W/kg, respectively. Absolute and relative maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) values and the VO2max-to-maximal heart rate ratios were significantly lower (by about 20%; P<0.001) for the exercise performed with upper than with lower limbs. The uptake of oxygen per litre of ventilated air (VO2max:VE) and the post-exercise base excess were correspondingly higher (by 14%, P<0.001 and 16%, P<0.05). The assessment of aerobic capacity may be a useful index when applying physical loads in the course of vocational training. Verf.-Referat
