Abstract des Autors

The purpose of this study was to describe national elite Filipino female judo athletes in terms of their body fat and skinfold patterning. They were also compared with a group of elite American female taekwondo athletes. Adult Filipino female judo athletes (n=19, age 21.3+/-0.9 years), and American elite female taekwondo athletes (n=15, age 26.1+/-1.3 years) were studied. The anthropometric measurements taken included height, weight, and thickness of 6 skinfolds. ANOVA procedures were used to determine group differences collapsed over body weight and within weight division. The judo group as a whole had a lower reverse ponderal index and a larger sum of six skinfolds than the taekwondo group. The lightweight (<60 kg) judo athletes were proportionally relatively similar to the taekwondo participants, but the heavyweight (>/= 60 kg) judoists recorded higher proportional skinfolds. Within weight division, the umbilical skinfold accounted for 58.7% of the variance in the <60 kg division and 85.4% in the >/= 60 kg category. Compared to sedentary female Australian aborigines, only the <60 kg judoists had a lower sum of six skinfolds. Both as a group and by weight division, the judo athletes have proportionally more fat on the trunk than on the extremities. Verf.-Referat
