Abstract des Autors

The present experiment, using 45 randomly assigned male university varsity team sport athletes examined the effects of three mental preparation strategies on the performance of a complex response time task. A 3 x 2 (treatment X condition) ANOVA with repeated measures on the condition factor and a post hoc Tukey test revealed that all three mental preparation strategies increased performance posttreatment although the effects were not equal. The self-efficacy group performed significantly better than the attentional focus group, however, no significant differences were found between the self-efficacy and self-determined groups or the selfdetermined and attentional focus groups. The results are discussed in light of current mental preparation findings and the arousal-performance relationship. Verf.-Referat
