Abstract
There is a narrow margin of benefit when using many medications in the treatment of athletes. The usual prudence in choosing medications must be taken a step further to stay within sport governing body guidelines and to avoid the untoward reactions seen in the special situations found in sports. Specific choices in drug selection, such as analgesics, NSAIDs, muscle relaxants, antibiotics, hypnotics, antispasmodics, antihistamines, cardiovascular drugs, and contraceptives are several groups needing extra consideration.
