Abstract des Autors

The aim of the study was to determine the effects of a short, maximal exercise (300 m sprint) on the activities of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase) and on blood levels of selenium and uric acid in 6 untrained subjects and 8 elite hurdlers before and after a 4 month specific training. A significant, sprint-induced increase in the activity of catalase was noted in athletes and that increase persisted throughout the recovery period. Uric acid was significantly increased in the recovery period but only in the athletes before the training and in the control group. After the training, only a short-lasting increase in superoxide dismutase activity was noted and the activity of that enzyme was, in general, lower than before the training. Verf.-Referat
