Abstract des Autors
Observations of some athletes, who had consumed l-carnitine, a supplementary nutrient, and the literary data referring to the topic were contradictory. The aim of the investigation was to study the effect of a supplementary nutrient of low l-carnitine content to the performance, to the aerobic, anaerobic and fat metabolism, to some enzymes and to the blood glucose level. Eight well-trained cyclists were subjects of the study in a randomized, double-blind arrangement. On the effect of l-carnitine treatment neither the performance improved nor any correlation was found among the treatments and the relative aerobic power, oxygen pulse and the heart rate. No significant correlation was found in lipid parameters on the effect of a single exercise bout, respectively different treatments did not influence them. The favourable effect of l-carnitine was observed in less pronounced blood lactate accumulation, in the favourable change of the anaerobic threshold, that is in the increase of vLa4 value. The relatively slight increase of RQ during physical exercise harmonized with the decrease of the anaerobic exertion. After the intake of l-carnitine athletes could perform easier, under more favourable physiological conditions, which should guarantee the achievement of an optimum training intensity. Verf.-Referat
