Abstract des Autors
From animal tests it can be concluded that the heart is a target organ for androgens. Also in man it appears to have a negative influence on the myocardium, apart from the more common known symptoms as increase of blood pressure and decrease of HDL-cholesterol. Research on the subject is being complicated by the complexity of the influence of the various anabolic agents on the parameters. Two models were recently described: one describing the possibility of vessel spasms resulting in myocardiac damage, the other based on the assumption that damage of cells leads to fibrosis, ischemia and possibly increased chance of ventricular arrhythmia and sudden death.
