Abstract des Autors
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone, UQ) was administered (100 mg daily for 30 days) to 13 subjects (Group T) randomly selected from a group of 53 young, healthy men subjected to intense work. The remaining 40 subjects received placebo (Group P). Before and after the UQ administration period, the subjects performed 3 cycle ergometer all-out exercises lasting 30, 10 and 10 s, spaced by 30 s intervals, and an exhausting exercise at 3 W/kg. Peak power, total work output, maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and activities of creatine kinase (CK) and asparate aminotransferase (ASAT) were determined. Post-UQ peak power in the first all-out bout and total work output in all anaerobic efforts significantly increased compared with the pre-UQ values. Mean increase in the peak power was 0.21+/-0.31 W/kg (P<0.05), work output in the consecutive efforts increased by 6.7+/-10.0, 3.1+/-4.2 and 3.1+/-4.5 J/kg, respectively (P<0.05). No such increases were observed in Group P. Neither CK nor ASAT activities changed significantly over the experimental period in either group. The duration of aerobic exercise at 3 W/kg until exhaustion increased in the second test in both groups alike. The results suggest a beneficial effect of UQ on the supramaximal exercise performance.
