Abstract des Autors

The ankle inversion sprain is one of the most frequent injuries amongst sportmen. After the first episode, recurrence frequency increases. The muscles opposing to the traumatic mechanism are the evertor muscles, above all the peroneal muscles. Isokinetic can be used as a valied support for the evaluation of muscle weakness and for muscle strengthening. The goal of this work has been the evaluation of evertor and invertor muscles in a sample of high level elite athletes involved in volleyball and basketball, to check whether there is a strength symmetry between both the ankles and get standard values to refer to for reeducation purposes. Twenty-one healthy subjects (11 basketball and 10 volleyball players) went through an eversion/inversion isokinetic test at the speed of 30, 60 and 120ø/sec.The results show a higher strength of the right ankle, both for eversion and inversion, thus with no statistic significance. The strength of both ankles is significantly correlated, even if the correlation index has never reached high levels. When the speed increases the strength of both evertors and invertors decreases meaningfully. The agonists/antagonists %-ratio is not significantly different between right and left limb, and does not change when the speed increases. The results of this work allowed us to check the strength symmetry between the right and left ankle in the samples we tested and fix reference parameters for reeducation and prevention of ankle strain recurrence.
