Abstract des Autors

The role of arthroscopy in the treatment of degenerative joint disease has been the subject of much debate. Arthroscopy of the degenerative knee may be used to achieve three goals: to define pathologic conditions, to treat specific problems, and to prolong the use of the knee without resorting to more invasive procedures. Indications for the various arthroscopic techniques, including partial meniscectomy, abrasion arthosplasty, and arthroscopic lavage, are based on several factors (e.g., patient age and activity level). Arthoscopic treatment of older athletic patients may allow them to continue their athletic pursuits, but the extent and duration of symptom relief is unpredictable. This article reviews and defines the indications for arthroscopic treatment of the degenerative knee in the elderly athlete. Verf.-Referat
