Abstract des Autors

To determine the risk of menstrual disorders in Polish elite swimmers interviews were collected from 70 swimmers and 466 randomly selected young control women in the same range of age. The prevalence of oligo-/amenorrhoea occurrence in the swimmer and control groups was 22.8 and 4.5%, respectively. The relative risk of oligomenorrhoea, expressed as odds ratio (OR), was in swimmers almost 4 times higher than in the control group (OR=3.89) and the risk of oligo-/amenorrhoea over 5 times higher (OR=5.33). By contrast, the risks of dysmenorrhoea and of the premenstrual syndrome were significantly lower among swimmers than among controls (OR=0.36 and 0.54, respectively, P<0.05). There were 4 cases of amenorrhoea in swimmers and only one case in the control group. It has been concluded that an intense swimming training has a great impact on the prevalence of menstrual dysfunctions. Verf.-Referat
