Abstract des Autors

The aim of the present study was to compare selected health risk factors in physically active (physical education, n=31) and inactive (other subjects, n=24) professional middle-age (35-50 years old) female teachers. The health risk parameters were estimated using a questionnaire recommended by Sharkey. The body mass index and waist/hip circumferences ratio were calculated. The body composition was measured using the bioelectrical impedance method. The total visceral adipose tissue volume and area and visceral fat index were calculated. The resting blood pressures were measured. In the blood the concentrations of CHOL, HDL-C, LDL-C, TG were measured and the HDL-C/CHOL ratio calculated. PWC-170 was estimated with cycle ergometer test. There were non-significant differences between the groups in the anthropometrical parameters and blood lipid and lipoprotein concentrations. The systolic blood pressure was significantly lower and PWC-170/kg higher in physical education teachers. We conclude that the female physical education teachers, who are relatively active during their occupational and leisure time, have only slightly lower selected health risks than the other subjects teachers.
