Abstract des Autors

150 finalists and 150 non-finalists from the sport of track racing, swimming, and table-tennis in the Second National Games for the Handicapped held at Tang Zhan, China were surveyed with five questionnaires: Commitment to Training (adapted from Carmack & Martens, 1979), STAI Form X-2 form State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, & Lushene, 1970), Profile of Mood States Questionnaire (McNair, Lorr & Drppleman, 1971) Attitude Towards Physical Activity (Corbin & Lindsey 1985), and one for personal data. Applying a stepwise discriminant function analysis at the 0.05 level of confidence, 12 out of 15 variables studied were found to be responsible for maximizing differences between the finalists and non-finalists, with the canonical discriminant function coefficient of .64 (Wilks' Lambda =.58). Further analyses revealed that the variables of Commitment Score, Vigour, Confusion, and Tension had coefficients larger than .30. Based on these four variables, the equation of D = 6.642 + CS(.56) + V(.089) - C(.164) - T(.129) was derived. The accuracy of this equation in classification was 233 out of 300 cases (88.7%). It was concluded that wheelchair athletes with differing performance levels possessed unique psychological characteristics. Verf.-Referat
