Abstract des Autors

In 58 men - 38 athletes and 20 physical education students the contents of total protein and cations (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and zinc) in mixed, unstimulated saliva were determined. The subjects were divided in 6 groups, 5 of which were subjected to physical exercise (training in judo consisting of sparring fights and lasting 45 min, cycle ergometer exercise until exhaustion lasting about 10 min and the Wingate test). Group 6 received orally 25 mg of ephedrine. In all subjects saliva was collected before and 3 min after the experiment. In athletes, as compared with students, saliva secretion, sodium and calcium concentrations were lower, while protein, magnesium and zinc concentrations - higher. Saliva secretion decreased while concentrations of protein and ions increased following exercise, particularly that lasting 45 min. Ephedrine did not change significantly the concentrations of ions in saliva. Verf.-Referat
