Abstract des Autors

The study was designed to compare the validity of three submaximal exercise tests in predicting maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max). Sixteen subjects (6 male, 10 female) performed the Rockport Walk Test (RWT), Astrand-Rhyming Cycle Test (ARCT), and a 2.4 km run (RUN). Predicted VO2max was compared to measured VO2max attained on a treadmill using the Bruce protocol. Mean VO2max was 44.6 +/- 8.4 ml/kg/min. The predicted VO2max were 43.6 +/- 7.6 (RWT), 45.1 +/- 12.2 (ARCT) and 36.8 +/- 8.1 (RUN), only the latter one being significantly (P<0.001) lower than the directly measured one. It was concluded that RWT and ARCT are valid tests for predicting VO2max and that the RUN may not be a valid test in subjects that are not highly motivated to perform. Verf.-Referat
