Abstract des Autors

Oxidative stress in long-distance skiers, induced by a laboratory exercise, was evaluated by measuring selected enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant systems and the level of lipid peroxides and of creatine kinase activity in plasma of 14 long-distance skiers who performed a graded exercise till exhaustion on a level electric treadmill. The exercise resulted in significant changes in the activities of antioxidant enzymes and levels of nonenzymatic antioxidants: superoxide dismutase activity and TBARS plasma level (decreases), glutathione reductase (GR) activity (-FAD and +FAD) in blood, creatine kinase (CK) activity and vitamin E level in plasma (increases). A significant, positive correlation between post-exercise activities of GR and CK (r=0.63 and 0.73 for -FAD and +FAD, respectively) was found. The obtained results indicated that the exercise performed was not a very potent stimulus evoking the oxidative stress in the erythrocytes of long-distance skiers due, probably, to their good adaptation to endurance exercises.
