Abstract des Autors
The number of motor units in medial gastrocnemius muscle of female rats was estimated by comparing the tetanic tension of the whole muscle to that of its motor units. That number was found to be equal to 80, which included 29 FF (fast fatiguable), 26 FR (fast resistant to fatigue) and 25 S (slow) units. The tension of all FF units contributed to 58% of total muscle tension, that of FR units - to 29%, and of S units - to 13% only. The here presented results suggest, compared with those of other authors, that female rat muscles are composed of weaker units and that the number of unmits is lower than in male rats. Verf.-Referat
