Abstract des Autors

This study is designed to investigate the intermuscular coordination of a sprinting task. Seven elite sprinters participated in the experiments. Ground reaction forces and position data were obtained of the second stance phase during an explosive sprinting event. Simultaneously, electromyographic activity of nine leg muscles was recorded. A link segment model was used to calculate the net joint moments and net joint powers. The different sprinters perform the movement in a stereotyped manner. The intermuscular coordination is characterized by a proximo-distal sequence in timing of the mono-articular extensor muscles and a pronounced reciprocal activity of the bi-articular rectus femoris and hamstrings. The coordination pattern cannot be fully understood on the basis of the earlier identified geometrical and anatomical constraint, since a specific constraint is identified with respect to the direction of the ground reaction force.
