Abstract des Autors

Scientific studies into effects of training show that increasing the intensity of training is more efficient than increasing training frequency and duration. The anaerobic threshold is used increasingly as a physiological standard for determining training intensity. For this purpose, lactate concentration is measured in (capillary) blood. This article discusses the relation between lactate concentration in blood and muscles, and between lactate concentration measurements made in laboratory tests and actual training sessions. During a laboratory ergometer test, steady-state loads are applied for a few minutes at a time, whereas actual endurance training may last several hours. To be of any use for determining training intensity, lactate concentrations should be measured both in the lab and in the actual training setting. Verf.-Referat
