Abstract des Autors

In our laboratory we evaluated three cycle-ergometer tests (Astrand, maximal and lactate test) for the prediction of climbing capacity in 71 moderately trained cyclists. Climbing capacity was assessed in an individual climbing time trial in Southern France. The maximum exercise test, in which the workload was increased by 10 Watt every minute, showed the highest correlation with climbing time. We found a correlation of 0.88 (p < 0.00) between the maximum workload per kilogram bodyweight and the climbing time. Although exercise tests provide no information about regeneration, motivation or tactics, there seems to be a close relationship between maximum workload, in the previously described protocol, and the athletic performance. The maximum workload per kilogram bodyweight is a predictor of climbing capacity in moderately trained cyclists. Verf.-Referat
