Abstract des Autors

At rest and during light to moderate exercise, fat is the most important muscle fuel. When the exercise intensity increases, the contribution of fatty acids to the total energy expenditure decreases. Because fat stores are mainly located outside the muscle cell (adipose tissue) and fat can only be used aerobically, lipolysis, transport of fatty acids to the muscle and uptake of fatty acids by the muscle are the limiting factors in fat oxidation. Substrate utilization is regulated by a complex interaction between factors at peripheral and central level (hormonal, sympathetic nervous system). The regulating role of the glucose-fatty acid cycle in the human muscle is still not clear. Verf.-Referat
