Abstract des Autors

Motivation in sport is one of the most prevalent topics of study in the field of sport psychology. Research has generally focused on individual motivation despite the fact that most sport activities occur in group settings. The extant research views group motivation from several perspectives, including team cohesion, attribution, social loafing and goal-setting. A more recent perspective on group motivation stems from an extension of Bandura's self-efficacy theory. In this article, collective efficacy is examined as a viable theory for understanding group motivation. The paper addresses the existing literature on group motivation in sport; the theory of self-efficacy and how it extends to collective efficacy, including relevant literature relating to collective efficacy; and suggestions for future collective efficacy reserach.
