Abstract des Autors

Professional ballet dancers were asked to learn a set of nonsense movements and a set of movements which could be named in ballet. They were then tested on their memory spans for each type of movement. Ballet movements did not lead to longer spans than nonsense movements, although the initial learning required was less for the ballet moves. The dancers' spans were longer than those of nondancers on both types of movements. Both articulatory suppression and movement suppression decreased the dancers' spans. In immediate recall for a set of movements dancers do not show superior recall for items from their domain of expertise, rather they have improved encoding of movements items in general. Verf.-Referat
