Abstract des Autors

The aim of the study was to review the clinical application of lateral knee braces. On basis of the international literature and early experiences of Sports Surgical Department of the National Institute of Sports Medicine the main types of lateral knee braces and their role in prevention and treatment of knee injuries are discussed. The characteristics of rehabilitative, functional and prophylactic knee braces as well as the conditions of their application are summarized. The most important advantages are: rehabilitative knee brace makes it possible to continue physical exercise, functional one may replace operation and prophylactic one serves prophylaxis.
