With detailed information concerning the role of the anterior cruciate ligament in the overall kinematic response of the knee during external loading, current clinical management of the orthopedic injuries to this joint may be improved upon and refined. Among the largest challenges to be met will be the elucidation of the effects of various levels and types of muscular stabilization concurrent with a precise determination of the roles of passive knee restraints.
