Abstract des Autors
Women's history in sports has not followed a linear path toward greater participation. In this article, social and historical trends influencing both opportunities and encouragement for women to participate in sports are explored. Although progress has been made, obstacles remain before women and girls receive equity in educational or professional settings. In a broader sense, women and girls report that physical activity and sports positively influences their health and sense of well-being. Finding time to fit exercise into busy lives remains a problem.
