Abstract des Autors

In recent years, the possibility of testing and training eccentric muscle action has increased, resulting in a large number of reports focusing on the physiological characteristics of eccentric training, while there have been fewer reports on specific training effects and still fewer on its clinical use in rehabilitation. Eccentric muscle action is defined as a dynamic lengthening action. The term contraction would be inappropriate as the mucle increases its length during activation. This editorial will discuss whether eccentric training may have a specific role in sports medicine and rehabilitation, what knowledge is currently available from training studies, and which research areas are of particular interest.
