Abstract des Autors

Somatotypes of 228 European elite wrestlers, both free and Graeco-Roman styles, were studied. The data were collected during the European Wrestling Championships (Poznan, May 6-13, 1990), and processed according to Sheidon, as modified by Heath and Carter, in order to assess the endo-, meso-, and ectomorphic parameters. The somatotypes of wrestlers were markedly differentiated due to a wide range of weight categories. In all those categories, however, the predominating somatotype was mesomorphy which was particularly expressed in highest weight categories. Mesomorphy was also the principal factor responsible for the relative uniformity of wrestlers' somatotype. Moreover, highest somatotype similarity was observed among those wrestlers who scored highest at the championships. Verf.-Referat
