Abstract des Autors

In previous studies the authors of the following series of papers in this supplement observed that 7- to 15-year-old Bolivian boys living at high altitude (La Paz, 3200-4100 m) and of high socioeconomic and nutritional status did not exhibit a significant delay in their staturoponderal, gonadal, and anaerobic metabolic maturation compared to European lowland boys (Clermont-Ferrand, France 320 m). Four groups of 10- to 12-year-old prepubertal Bolivian boys living at high or low altitude (HA or LA) and of high or low socioeconomic status (HSES or LSES) were the subjects of the studies presented in this supplement. The main purpose of the research project was to assess the influence of residential altitude and socio-economic status on the physical health and fitness of 10- to 12-year old prepubertal Bolivian boys.
