Abstract des Autors
The authors analyze the importance of epidemiological methods in studying sport injuries. The simple description of a clinical case series does not allow the identification of the general population to whom the pathological events refer and a correct evaluation of specific risk factors. Frequently clinical case series are biased by selection mechanisms which do not allow the generalization of results. It is always necessary to consider the size of the risk population to identify specific risk factors and their association strength with pathologic events. Epidemiology offers Sport Medicine several methodological tools to develop adequate preventive strategies. Verf.-Referat
