Abstract
Structure, metabolism, and degenerative changes of the joint cartilage are demonstrated. Possible biochemical markers of the diseased or injured cartilage are structure elements of the matrix and secondary products of the synovia, especially the hyaluronic acid, elastase-inhibitory complex and pyridinium crosslinks.
